Red New Mexico

Red New Mexico is a glass blend that is used only once a year to make Planets, vases and occasionally bowls or platters.

The glass is made by adding copper ruby to the usual glass mixture of silica, soda ash and lime. Reactive silver is then added to the surface to make the striking pattern similar to Josh's Blue New Mexico glass.

“Josh Simpson often speaks of the alchemy of his glass work, the combination of silica, color and heat that is as much magic as science. Alchemy is an apt metaphor, not just for the physical materials of his work, but also for the blend of curiosity, life experience, imagination, humor, and intelligence that Simpson brings to the glass.”
